Andalusia is one of the most popular filming locations for this series. The Alcázar of Seville has provided the set for the water gardens of the Dorne peninsula in southern Westeros. Scenes have also been shot in Osuna, an hour’s drive from Seville, near where Julius Caesar won the final battle of his civil war. The town’s bullring was used as the arena of Meereen, where Daenerys began her first dragon flight. The crew filmed an extensive amount of season 6 in Girona; a beautiful medieval city just north of Barcelona. Fans will recognize scenes from Braavos, Oldtown, and Kings Landing within its streets. The main Girona Cathedral served as the setting for the scene, where vengeful Cersei Lannister blew up the Great Sept of Baelor.
